Two wires – ready – go: Take advantage of the benefits of telephone cables for the network!

Expanding an existing IT network or implementing a new one: In many private homes or commercial buildings, retrofitting conventional twisted pair or fibre optic cables is either too expensive or simply impossible. However, by using a VDSL2 converter, existing two-wire connections such as telephone lines, but also intercoms and door openers, can be used for the network. A comparison of ranges shows that this technology is by no means a stopgap solution, but actually offers advantages. With a two-wire cable, data can be transmitted at a speed of 100 Mbit over distances of up to 300 m, while the range of twisted pair cables is limited to a maximum of 100 m. If lower bandwidths are sufficient, distances of up to 3000 m can also be bridged via two-wire.

With the NV-202, manufacturer Netsys has introduced a new entry-level model to its VDSL2 converter product family. The NV-202 impresses with its simple plug-and-play commissioning and requires neither configuration nor in-depth technical knowledge on the part of the user. The converter is connected directly to the telephone cable, eliminating the need for cumbersome plugging. An external splitter allows telephone devices to be connected in a single step. Thanks to its simple configuration via a mechanical dip switch, the NV-202 can be used flexibly as a master or slave at any time.

Its ease of use makes the NV-202 the ideal network distributor for smaller commercial enterprises, e.g. in trade or agriculture, but also in hotels and restaurants, when outbuildings need to be supplied and/or expensive new network cables are to be avoided. Thanks to Power over Ethernet (PoE), the NV-202P model variant supplies end devices with up to 30W in total.
